z-t1On May 22, 2010, members from the CPOA Yorktown Chapter, along with several volunteer members from TRACEN Yorktown "A" school students provided volunteer service to help contribute to the restoration of the USCGC Tamaroa (WAT/WMEC-166), a.k.a. USS Zuni, a former US Navy Salvage tug.

Members from the Zuni Maritime Foundation were also present to assist the CPOA members and students over a weekend of helping preserve the Cutter.

The mission of the Zuni Maritime Foundation is to provide education, US Navy and USCG history of the Cutter, as well as preservation and restoration. These opportunities provide "A" school students who volunteer, the chance to learn, develop, and practice new technical skills, while providing restoration to maritime history.

Future volunteer activities will be scheduled and coordinated by our Community Service Chair, SCPO Del Hayes.
